Description:
Dinner
presentation of the impacts of Pretreatment of PFAS in the Future of One Water.
The Industrial Waste Management Division (IWMD) administers the pretreatment
program for the City of Los Angeles. The City manages and operates the largest
water treatment system on the west coast with over 6,700 miles of pipe, 4 water
reclamation plants that process 320 MGD of wastewater, and nearly 16,000
permitted industrial users. To support the shift towards one water in a city as
large as Los Angeles, the pretreatment program must be robust. IWMD supports
the City’s one water planning through their local limits, reclamation plant
response, collaboration with other pollution prevention professionals, and
numerous outreach programs such as LA Industry, the Sector Champions, and
Environmental Justice. This presentation will discuss the way IWMD is already
incorporating one water ideologies in their current practices and putting the
WRF recommendations into practice. The work done by Industrial Waste ensures
high quality source water, promotes sustainable options to dischargers,
provides regular support to the water reclamation plants, and educates the
community at large about the future of water planning. All of these efforts are
integral to future water management and can serve as a model to other agencies.
